Website redesign: How Intellicore recovered Tarves Heritage Centre website and redesigned the site

The client

The Tarves Heritage Centre, opened in July 2004, occupies part of a beautifully restored Victorian school building dating back to 1837.Carefully renovated to complement Tarves’ Conservation Area status, the centre has become a key attraction for visitors to the village and the surrounding area.

The Tarves Heritage Project, established in 1992, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Tarves and the Barthol Chapel Parish. Its efforts led to the creation of the Heritage Centre as both a museum and a community resource celebrating local history.

the result

Intellicore were able to redesign a modern, purpose fit website for Tarves Heritage Centre. The website now has easy navigation built in which made it easier for the staff at Tarves Heritage Centre to updating content without the need of a specialist. The website was also designed with mobile application in mind and works seamlessly on mobile.

The creation of the new website has reduced the Tarves Heritage Centre monthly running cost by 10 times with the staff themselves being able to now update content to the site.

the challenge

Having an outdated website, Tarves Heritage Centre staff were unable to make amends to the site themselves and had to out source a technical person every time they were wanting to add content to the site. They were looking for a more cost-effective, long-term solution for their website.

how we did it

After the client’s original website was hacked and became inaccessible, we used the internet archive to recover its content and structure. From there, we redesigned the site to create a more logical, user-friendly layout. The logo was refreshed for greater versatility, and a new colour palette was developed to align with and enhance the existing brand identity and strong heritage.

Using the Lumos Design System in Webflow, we rebuilt the site with all recovered content, implemented SEO best practices (including redirects from old URLs), and ensured full mobile responsiveness. After several rounds of feedback, we provided detailed documentation and training calls to help the client confidently manage their new site post-launch.

The benefits of using Webflow allows the staff at Tarves Heritage Centre to manage the website and content themselves without needing any in-depth knowledge of the programme.
